our cinquecento has started to overheat. there is water in header tank, but the warning light comes on. i also notice that whenengine hot, water trickles through header tanks cap, even though itsscrewed on. many people talk of overheating problems on this car, but what is solution? just had a service and rad and fan are fine.

try flushing the cooling system out, by removing the radiator top hose and running fresh water from your garden hose through one end, if it comes out all rusty, then its probably clogged up inside.

remember afterwards, to replace the lost antifreeze as this protects and lubricates the cooling system. theres also some stuff (cant remember the name of it) you can put in your coolant that will help de-clog your coolant galleries and pipes.

hi , i have fiat cinquecento and tipo , my car uaed to over heat when in was either hot weather or going up long steep hills. solution was changing the radiator - because due to its location so low down near the floor, the matrix gets blocked externaly - stopping the cooler air from passing through it . now the car is fine since changing it . plus if you dont know when thermostat was changed - change it anyway. also worth while to flush / reverse flush the whole cooling system . hope this helps !

there's a small tube in the engine bay by the nearside front headlight. it has a screw cap on the end which lets the air out of the radiator.
