Question
David Hicks Vauxhall Astra 1.6 sxi 1.6 2004
i have a 2004 astra 1.6 sxi. with 58.000 miles. it has recently developed an intermittent screeching noise from the engine when slowing down, it also does this when engine is idling when engine is warm. the cam belt was changed last year & is fine. my local garage thought it was a dry belt tensioner bearing but when checked said it was ok. they then said there is a diafram / breather under the top engine cover which needed cleaning. but after 2 days the noise is back. anyone got a cure for this annoying problem.

i have found the problem. the cam box cover needs replacing, it contains a breather of some sort. apparently it's a common fault with this particular model & a modified part is available.
