 HARRY VAUXHALL CAVALIER 2.0 8V 1989 CDI
i wonder if anyone can help my cav has only done 75000 and whene driving along it just dies all the ignition lights come on you half to wait for five minutes then it starts it seems to do it three times then stops for a while but its in mint condition and dont want to sell it

try the distributor
on the 8v it is on the right as you look at the engine and has the plug leads connected to it with an orange cap(borch/delco).
the dizzy is a hall effect and when the modulator inside gets hot it breaks down.
get one from a breakers yard and fit it on it will do the trick

hi. i had such a problem on my cavalier, and found it to be as simple as tightening the terminals on the batter, it might work, but its that simple that you have to try, let me know if it works.

sounds to me like your idle switch but put it on a diagnosic machine to be sure...
